About Simon

My path to becoming a Counsellor
For as long as I can remember, I have enjoyed meeting and talking with people from all walks of life and hearing their stories. I was born and raised in New Plymouth, New Zealand. Through my Mum’s own personal journey, I had the privilege of growing up in a home environment where health was valued, and many alternative avenues were explored in pursuit of healing and healthy living.
As a child I struggled with dyslexia and poor coordination that made schooling and sport difficult. Through my Mum’s explorations into kinesiology my coordination and ability to learn academically increased dramatically. This showed me that change could happen and be long lasting.
When I finished high school I pursued many different studies including training as a commercial pilot and utilising my IT degree to run a web development company. These experiences gave me valuable skills, but they didn’t feel aligned to a sense of purpose.
I went on to pursue more training, including working as a personal trainer. I had a deep pull towards helping people improve their physical health. In working on a physical level, I started to notice the challenges people have in their life, specifically with their body. This observation led me to study Touch for Health and Kinesiology. I then realised that the internal workings of the body were just as important to keep healthy, which led me to working clinically with nutrition and lifestyle coaching.
At this time in my life I became a father to my daughter. I also experienced many of my clients struggling with ailments such as, chronic fatigue, stress, anxiety, depression, digestive issues, auto immune disease etc.
This awareness initiated my study into becoming a qualified homeopath so that I could take care of my family and help my clients better. Once I was in private practice, a big realisation happened. The biggest challenges in my clients lives and in my own were the relationships they have with themselves and others.
I explored many different psychology pathways and when I came across Psychosynthesis Psychology it felt congruent with what I was seeking to explore with myself and clients. Through training as a Psychosynthesis Counsellor I have a greater understanding of my own and others struggles and now feel privileged to work with my clients in their own search for understanding, healing and purpose in their lives.
Outside of my professional work I enjoy dancing tango, horse riding, reading and being in nature. I have in the past been an international jouster, competitive fencer and skier. Being active and engaged in live has always been important to me as is the close relationships I have in my life with my friends and family.
